Forty years is an amazing milestone for men and yet seems to have this negative connotation associated with it. Turning the big four-oh gives most of us the impression that we’re “over the hill” and that’s usually the reason why most men let their foot off the gas and start to allow their physiques to deteriorate.
Well, we don’t accept it and nor should you. There is absolutely no reason why you should slip into that downward spiral. Instead, we’ve pulled together these awesome tips to help you feel great and fast track your progress to achieve your best body.
STOP THE PRESSES! THESE TIPS WILL SURELY HELP YOU ACHIEVE YOUR BEST BODY
1. CUT DOWN ON RED MEAT
I know it may seem like we’re hitting you pretty hard right off the bat but relax, you don’t have to quit eating barbecue. However, you should take into consideration that as you age your body has a harder time breakdown heavy compounds such as red meat.
Opt for leaner more tender cuts and minimise your frequency to a couple of times a week at most. There are other healthy protein sources that will digest easier and benefit your system a lot more.
2. GET YOUR TESTOSTERONE LEVELS CHECKED
Having trouble concentrating? Feeling depressed with little to no energy? Can’t seem to get off the couch. Your problem may be more physiological than psychological. Low testosterone is a condition that affects most men as they age and is rarely ever diagnosed properly.
Luckily in recent years, new science has emerged proving the benefits of having this essential hormone readily available in our system. Get your testosterone levels checked and if they are low, make sure to start the appropriate testosterone replacement therapy.
3. PERFECT YOUR FORM WHEN TRAINING
Not only does perfect form prevent injuries, but it maximizes the amount of response your muscles get through the range of motion while performing the exercise. “Cheat reps”, while somewhat beneficial, should only be utilized during those last couple of reps and done so very carefully. Even cheat reps have a specific and proper form.
4. KEEP TRACK OF THE IMPORTANT NUMBERS
Stepping on a scale isn’t always the best way to know where your health is at. What you really want to know if your body fat percentage, blood pressure and cholesterol. These are the numbers that really give you an idea of where your overall health is at.
5. STAY HYDRATED
Water is so important yet so overlooked especially as we get older and drinking alcohol with meals becomes more accepted. Water should be your number one choice of beverage at all times.
6. QUIT THE BOOZE
Sorry but we’re not sorry about this one. Alcohol has exactly zero health benefits. We don’t even recommend drinking a glass of wine with your meals. You may hear that wine contains antioxidants, well so do blueberries. Go with the latter.
What’s the takeaway here? Fitness, lifestyle and diet are intrinsically linked. Enjoy the journey and follow the road that is good for you. Achieve your best body today!
