THE BEAUTY OF BEANS

The Beauty of Beans

Fire up the stove and set a pot to boil. Beans are on the menu, or at least, they should be. Aside from being one of the healthiest foods you can eat and serve both as awesome bodybuilding as well as nutritional food (those two don’t always go together), there are more reasons why you need to understand the beauty of beans.

UNDERSTANDING THE BEAUTY OF BEANS

IT IS A CANCER FIGHTER

Beans contain certain plant substances called isoflavones and phytosterols. Both these chemicals have been shown to greatly reduce the risk of cancer in people.

IT REDUCES RISK OF HEART DISEASE

The phytochemicals in beans don’t just stop at fighting cancer. Beans also drastically reduce the bad cholesterol in your body, which is a trigger for heart disease and other cardiovascular problems.

IT’S AN AWESOME SOURCE OF PROTEIN AND FIBRE

Beans are full of fibre. A 100gm serving of kidney beans contains 25gm of fibre. Amazing, isn’t it? That makes up for almost half the carb content in the beans. That same 100gm serving contains 24gm of quality muscle-building protein, which makes it a perfect food for bodybuilders and endurance athletes.

IT HELPS BALANCE BLOOD SUGAR

The glycemic index of beans is lower than most other food sources due to the slow absorption from the complex carbs it contains. During the digestion process, beans keep your blood sugar at stable levels and prevent insulin from spiking then dropping.

IT’S EASY ON THE WALLET

Another important benefit of beans is that they are much more affordable than most foods. When compared to other protein sources like meat or fish, beans are much cheaper dollar for dollar.

Beans are certainly one food that is economical while giving us more of what we need. Learn more about the beauty of beans and make it a part of your diet plans today.

When you put together the sum total of my 30 years of bodybuilding training, the contests, the vast array of diets I have experimented (tortured) myself with as well as the experiences I have been through with various training partners in the gyms I have trained in all over the world, it’s been a great ride and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to be able to do lots of personal training for private clients alongside my day job. For a few years during my 30’s, I moved to Asia and worked as the Fitness Manager and head personal trainer at one of Thailand’s leading gyms in Bangkok. Learn More
