Most women have the same goals when it comes to exercise. They want to look good, feel healthier, feel good about themselves and their body. It’s not vain to want to look good and feel good about the way you look. A better looking body is normally a healthier body.
Generally speaking, women aren’t as inclined to spend as much time in the gym as men. They tend to gravitate to the same exercises. I’m very careful when talking to women in the gym. The last thing I want to be is someone who is giving advice when it is not my place or the right place to give it. I do see common patterns that women tend to fall into.
THE 5 COMMON MISTAKES WOMEN MAKE WITH THEIR EXERCISE AND DIET
I’m writing this article for the women out there that want to get more out of the time they put into exercise by highlighting some of the most common mistakes, again, generally speaking, that I see women making when attempting to get fit.
OVERLY FOCUSING ON CARDIO-TYPE TRAINING
It’s common to see cardio classes packed with women and not many men. These classes often make up the majority of the exercise that many women partake. Cardio is great, but women should also complement cardio with strength training. Strength training is great for improving posture, and your figure, as well as helping you lose body fat.
Simply put, cardio type training is not enough for women, especially women over 40, to get into shape.
NOT HAVING A PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM
Any woman who wants to get results from the effort they put into exercise should seek a professional consultant or join a workout program as found on Over 40 Health & Fitness. If you don’t have the experience, which you won’t as a beginner, to exercise your complete body and get the most out of the effort you put in, then it is imperative that you seek professional help.
Without help from those who can assess your situation, help you understand your goals and know your physical condition, it’s common for anyone, not just women, to work out and exercise in an unbalanced manner. Unbalanced exercise and training are extremely ineffective.
NOT WARMING UP PROPERLY
I see this all too often with men and women but women seem overly prone to ignore warm-up exercises even before a cardio session. All exercise, weight training or cardio classes, requires a proper warm-up. Warming up is about keeping safe, which is extremely important if you are over 40.
The biggest reason why most people aged over 40 fail at exercise is that they end up with an injury that results in a loss of motivation.
Over 40 Health & Fitness offers a free download guide on how to warm up properly and why. This book is designed to give men and women over 40 a good practical foundation for working out, whether it be in the gym or a home based exercise program.
NOT TRAINING WITH ENOUGH WEIGHT
Training with the right amount of weight is something that anyone needs to learn for themself. Nevertheless, I often see women encouraged to train with weights that are too light and aren’t helping with strength and weight loss training. Strength training is an extremely important aspect of a composite exercise program for all women over 40 that will also help strengthen bones as well as muscles.
NOT GETTING SERIOUS ABOUT NUTRITION
Old-fashioned values are simply not good enough when it comes to getting healthy. The processed food that is readily available for us is not as good for us as we think. Women over the age of 40 often get confused about this, which is not surprising considering how much diet-marketing information bombards women from every angle. Diets are not the solution. A complete look at one’s nutrition and getting away from processed foods as a lifestyle is required otherwise exercise is a waste of time.
