HELPFUL TIPS ON HOW TO STOP WORRYING

Helpful Tips on How to Stop Worrying

How to stop worrying so much was something I needed to deal with many years ago since I always seemed to be worrying about something. Although I wanted to know how to stop worrying, the more I thought about it, the more I worried about how to stop it. So, I ended up feeling worse.

To stop worrying, you need to break the chain or in other words, stop worrying about worrying or simply stop thinking too much, since the more you think, the more often your thoughts turn towards worrying.

TURNING NEGATIVE THOUGHTS OFF

While pondering the idea of how to stop worrying, I realised the only way for me to stop worrying was to spend more of my time with my thoughts turned off. Although the best way to do this is through meditation, I wasn’t too familiar with the process at that time, so I started listening to music.

I always liked listening to music, but I was never the type of person to go out and buy music. I might occasionally listen to the radio to whatever songs were playing, but that was about it.

MEDITATE THROUGH RELAXING SOUNDS

Instead of simply listening to random songs where, often, the very words in the songs can sound quite depressing, I went to an alternative bookshop back when I was living in Sydney (when there was such a thing as bookshops).

This bookshop was quite unique, it dealt with mainly spiritual and new age type of material, so I bought myself some relaxation CDs with the sounds of nature and a number of different musical instruments being played in the background. None of the music I bought had any words in it, so it was easier to focus on the sounds. This gave me my first insight into how to stop worrying.

Of course, I couldn’t go round with headphones on all day listening to the sounds of nature to help me stop worrying. But, what I could do was take time out of my busy schedule each day for short periods and listen to this calming music. By doing this, I realised once and for all how to stop worrying.

Whenever I wanted to stop worrying, I needed to break the chain, and the music helped me see how I could immediately do that and successfully stop worrying. I did this by concentrating my attention solely on the sounds of the music and didn’t allow myself to think about whatever it was that was worrying me.

PRACTICE NOT WORRYING

Over time, not only did I come to terms with how to stop worrying, I was also able to induce the same relaxed feeling I got when I started to listen to relaxing music without needing the music anymore.

How to stop worrying comes down to practice, just like you need to practice to get better at anything you want to get good at. I certainly wanted to become proficient at not worrying. And with practice, I managed to stop worrying nowhere near as much.

I think everyone worries on some level, at least some of the time. But if you worry a lot, the answer lies in breaking the chain. You need to stop thinking or at least break your train of thought and have something else to focus your mind on and that could be relaxing music.

The more often I broke the worry chain, the weaker the chain got, and it eventually led me to become a person who rarely worries. Ever since, my life has become infinitely better, and my thoughts are more stable once I figured out how to stop worrying.

When you put together the sum total of my 30 years of bodybuilding training, the contests, the vast array of diets I have experimented (tortured) myself with as well as the experiences I have been through with various training partners in the gyms I have trained in all over the world, it’s been a great ride and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to be able to do lots of personal training for private clients alongside my day job. For a few years during my 30’s, I moved to Asia and worked as the Fitness Manager and head personal trainer at one of Thailand’s leading gyms in Bangkok. Learn More
